Self Enrolment

How long is my self-enrolment valid for?

All self-enrolments for Fall Term students are valid from Sept. 1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025. New eligible Winter Term students may enrol themselves in the Plan for coverage between Jan. 1, 2025 – Aug. 31, 2025.

How can I enroll myself in the plan?

All self-enrolments are done online during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage Period through our website by clicking here. You’ll need your student ID number and your date of birth. Self-enrolling online ensures quick processing and allows you to receive an instant confirmation of your self-enrolment request.

I am an international student who was automatically enrolled in the dental plan; can I enroll myself in the health plan?

Yes, if you’re an international student who is eligible for the dental portion of the Plan and have been granted a Quebec Medicare card (RAMQ), you may also enroll yourself in the health portion of the Plan by completing our Enrolment Form which is available online, during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out PeriodYou’ll be required to provide a copy of your RAMQ card during the enrolment process.

When will I receive the instructions for my online self-enrollment?

Once your self-enrolment and proof of eligibility documents have been reviewed, you’ll receive an automated email with payment instructions and a deadline during or shortly after the Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period.

What kind of documents do I need to provide?

If the university didn’t bill you automatically but you’re eligible for the Plan, you must provide proof of eligibility (“Invoice/Facture”) during the online self-enrolment process.

Combining Plans & Coordinating Benefits

How do I coordinate benefits with my employee plan?

If you’re covered by your employer in addition to a student Plan, your employee plan is your primary plan. All claims must first be submitted to your employee plan, and then the remaining balance can be sent to your student Plan. For step-by-step instructions, click here.

How do I coordinate benefits with my parent’s or spouse’s plan?

If you’re covered by your spouse’s or parent’s plan in addition to a student Plan, your student Plan is your primary plan. All claims must first be submitted to your student Plan, and then the remaining balance can be sent to your spouse’s or parent’s plan. For step-by-step instructions, click here.

Can I coordinate benefits with another plan?

Yes, if you’re covered by another extended plan in addition to your student Plan (e.g. through a parent's or spouse's employer, or your own employer), you may coordinate the benefits in order to increase your overall coverage, up to 100%.

Claiming

How do I register for direct deposit?

Once you’ve submitted your first claim and it’s been processed, you can register for direct deposit. You must first create an online account with Desjardins Insurance. Visit Desjardins Insurance's secure portal by clicking here. You'll be asked to enter your Group Number and your Certificate Number. For more information, click here.

How do I track and view my claims history?

Once you’ve submitted your first claim and it’s been processed, you can register for an online account with Desjardins Insurance, which will allow you to track and view details of your claims. Visit Desjardins Insurance's secure portal by clicking here. You'll be asked to enter your Group Number and your Certificate Number. For more information, click here.

How can I submit a claim?

The ASEQ mobile app is no longer available as of Sept. 1, 2022. But don’t worry, you can still submit claims quickly and easily through Desjardins Insurance’s Omni mobile app or web portal.  If you can’t create or access your account on Desjardins Insurance’s mobile app or web portal (e.g. if you’re no longer a student), you can send in a paper form. Submit it, along with the required supporting documentation, through the secure submission page rather than by mail.

What's an Explanation of benefits?

An explanation of benefits (EOB) statement tells you what portion of a claim was paid to the health-care provider and what portion you must pay. Once your claim has been processed, you’ll receive an EOB from your insurer either electronically or by mail.

What is my certificate number?

Your certificate number is your modified universal access code. Click here to find it.

Is there a claiming deadline?

Yes, Desjardins Insurance must receive your claim within 12 months of the date the service was incurred. For more information and last year’s deadlines, click here.

Opt Out

Can I opt-out or change my coverage?

Yes. During the Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period, you can opt out of the Plan either partially or completely. Only new Winter session students or those who were not billed in the Fall session can opt out during the Winter Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period.

How do I know if my opt-out is complete?

After you have successfully changed your coverage, you'll receive an automated confirmation email once it’s complete. If you don’t receive a confirmation email by the end of the Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period, please contact the Care Centre.

Opt Outs and Coverage Changes

How do I Opt-out or change my coverage?

All opt outs are done online through the website by clicking here. You’ll need your student ID number and your date of birth. Changing your coverage online ensures quick processing and allows you to receive an instant confirmation of your changes.

How do I get my refund?

Each part of the Health & Dental Plan is optional, which means you can opt out partially or fully. Students who successfully opt out will receive a credit to their account.

Prescription Drugs

How do I know if my drug is eligible for coverage?

For any information concerning prescription drugs, please contact Desjardins Insurance at 1-800-463-7843. To find out if a specific drug is covered, you'll need to provide the name of the drug and the Drug Identification Number (DIN).

How do I claim for oral contraceptives and antidepressants?

All claims for prescription drugs, including oral contraceptives and antidepressants, must first be submitted to your public or private health-care plan (e.g. a parent or spouse’s plan, employee plan, or Quebec Medicare through RAMQ), before submitting them to your student Health Plan. The cost of oral contraceptives and antidepressants can be covered for opt to 100% when combining your public or private health-care plan with your student Health Plan. I enrolled myself in the extended plan. Do I have access to prescription drug coverage?

Yes, prescription drug coverage is available through the AEETS Plan including coverage for most oral contraceptives and antidepressants. For more information, click here.

I am a Quebec resident (or an international student who is now resident of Quebec). Does the plan cover prescription drugs?

In order to claim for prescription drugs covered by your Plan, you must first be covered by RAMQ or a private or public drug insurance plan. For more information, click here.

I don't have access to prescription drug coverage through a private plan. What can I do?

If you don’t have access to a private or public drug plan (through your employer, parents, or spouse), you must register for the RAMQ Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan. For more information, click here.

ASEQ Networks

Do I have to see a ASEQ Networks professional?

You are not limited to ASEQ Network members. You're covered for the insured portion of your Plan regardless of the health professional you choose. By visiting a network member, you will get additional coverage.

What are the ASEQ Networks?

The ASEQ Networks are composed of different types of health and dental practitioners conveniently located in your area and other regions of Canada. Their commitment to helping students provides you with the option of paying less for their services. ASEQ Networks savings work in addition to your insured benefits so that you can save even more money.

Couple & Family Enrolments

Will their coverage automatically be renewed next year?

Coverage is only for the current policy year. If you want to cover your dependants in subsequent policy years, you must renew your couple/family coverage during the Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period at the beginning of each school year.

Can I enroll my family members?

Your Plan gives you the option to enroll your dependent children and/or your spouse. You can only cover one spouse at a time.

Can I enroll my family in the plan?

Your Plan gives you the option to enroll your family (spouse and/or dependent children) during the Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out period by completing an enrolment process and by paying an additional fee, over and above your individual fee as a Plan member, through the website by clicking here. Common law couples are eligible. Only new Winter Term students can enroll their dependents during the Winter Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period.
